Samurai Warriors 2 // Features
Gameplay
-Expect major changes on the movesets. Characters will have one of these three styles for their movesets:
Combo type: Able to unleash up to C8 and 12-square combo, but the charges are singletary. (eg. SSSSSSST)
Charge type: Able to unleash 3 continual charge, but only up to C4 & 8-square combo (eg. SSSTTT)
Spec. Attack type: 8-square combo, C4 with 2 continual charge (eg. SSSTT), able to have continued special attacks (eg. [R1+S]x3)
-Holding R1 and pressing square or triangle will activate special moves. Some stages are very hard if you do not use special moves, according to the interview.
-There will be no more arrow or ranged attack when you hold down R1 as that is used for the new special moves. There were discussions as to remove arrows or the roll move but since this game is about movement, they decided on the arrows.
-Although arrow attacks are no more, that doesn't mean ranged attacks are removed at all. Masamune will be able to shoot by pressing one of the special move commands.
-Stages where you attack a castle will include the areas outside the castle, on the castle grounds, and inside the castle. The director says all these are part of one map so there are no more of those annoying long stages like in SW.
-The Musou Bar now has three sections, which represent strength levels. You can quickly unleash musou after a section is filled, but it won't be as strong as musou when all three sections are filled.
-You can only charge the musou bar (holding O) until 1 section is filled.
-Musou Attack system is still similar to the previous game: Peons slow-motion, and you can still execute other movements.
-When activating Musou Hiougi (True Musou), there will be a close up pic on the character.
-You can do Musou Saigo Ougi (Double Musou) with your bodyguard as well.
-Sub-missions are confirmed back, which perhaps means this game will retain its fast pace.
-Musou mode has around the same number of stages as last time because there are many playable generals this time.
-There is a general shop in this game. In the shop, you can buy:
Weapon upgrades
Skills
Bodyguards
Horses
-Weapons are still obtainable from battles, but now you can keep up to 8 weapons. Even though weapons still have elements, the effects will be changed.
-The highest level of weapons is Level 4.
-There are five elements: Fire, Lightning, Ice, Wind, Dark.
The first three elements works the same as the previous version.
Wind element ignores enemy guard
Dark element instantly kills the enemy without any Musou consumption.
-Items are gone, and replaced totally with a new skill system.
Every character in SW1 has only limited slots to equip items, but in SW2, a character can equip even all skills you like. Besides, skills of each character can't be shared with others like what happened in item skill in SW1.
-You gain skills by either levelling up the character, buying it at the general shop, or stealing it from enemy general (Chances you'll acquire a skill after defeating a general)
-Even after you've reached max level of a character, s/he will still be able to get new skills and such.
-The bodyguard system will be similar to DW5. However, if DW5's bodyguards are randomly generated, it seems like the bodyguards here are pre-determined. There will be 54 of them.
-Mounted Durability bar is back.
-There will be about 15 kinds of steeds available. There are balanced type, power type, and speed type horses, as well as special types.
-Some elements from its competitor, Sengoku BASARA, have been brought in as well
When you select a character, s/he will say something.
Combo number now counts all hits landed on everyone instead of per person.
Once a general is defeated, his soldiers will run away hastily and killable in one hit, though they don't stumble like in BASARA.
You can rotate the camera with right analog stick.
Environment, Modes & Enemy
-The SW series main theme has always been about the character's personality. This will not change for SW2 but will go further in this direction.
-The emotional system is back (The changing of face expression depending on the situation)
-Retreat and Death scenes are applied to all unique characters and important generic generals.
-If the previous game's focus was on Nobunaga, in this sequel, the focus will be the famous Battle of Sekigahara.
-During testing they tried to put as much enemies as possible(not sure if they mean on the map or on screen). This did not work out too well. Still, compared to SW, there are more enemies.
-There are 26 playable characters in this game.
-The producer has confirmed there will be some characters in SW1 that won't show up here.
Kunoichi, Ishikawa Goemon and Imagawa Yoshimoto are the ones who got the axe.
-In order to match the timeline, some older parts have been taken out as well.
No more Okehazama, Inabayama, Ise-Nagashima, including NPC Honganji Kennyo.
-Starting Characters are:
Yukimura
Mitsuhide
O-Ichi
Ieyasu
Mitsunari
Ginchiyo
Kotarou
-By having Sengoku Musou 1 save data before starting this game, Kenshin and Hanzou will be selectable from the start.
Similarly, Having Sengoku Musou 1 Moushouden save data will make Tadakatsu available.
-There is a new mode, Sugoroku. It plays like a Monopoly game. Up to 4 players can play it.
-Infinite Castle mode makes a return, marking confirmation of the return of castle stages. Now, you will receive missions beforehand, and fulfilling the missions gets you rewards. Some of the missions are straightforward, there are other variant missions like 'make it to the next floor without being spotted' etc. Also, some special features can only be unlocked from this mode.
-Historical Encyclopedia is available in this game.
-There is no Shinbushou (New Officer, a.k.a. CAW) in this game.
-There are no alternate costumes either.
-Colors should be more vibrant this time around.
-Three-army battles are confirmed back.
-Known Enemy types:
Long Spears
Cavalry
Archers
Musketeers
Defenders
Healing Ninjas
Sky Ninjas
Bomb Ninjas
Strike Ninjas
-There are four difficulties. Easy, Normal, Hard, and an unlockable Hell mode.
-Enemy AI is strengthened considerably that in Normal mode, your allies can get into trouble easily.
-Enemies won't get stronger as you do, like in SWXL.
-Unlike in DW5, you can save in-battle as many times in any difficulties.
-Cavalry horses are killable. However, your own horse won't die.
